THE TWO COUNTRIP CHRIS, NANCY & DANIEL BENOITI’m writing this edition of The Two Count in the memory of my personal favorite professional wrestler since the turn of the new millennium. Chris Benoit. I am commenting on his career, my personal feelings concerning his death, and the ramifications that his death may have on the world of pro wrestling. Before I go any further, let me say the feelings expressed and the opinions shared in this column are my own and reflect no one else...Confusion. Concern. Anger. Disbelief.Four strong emotions that I’ve felt since hearing about Benoit’s passing. What events led up to the deaths of the Benoit family? Did my personal favorite wrestler since Bret Hart murder his own son and wife, only to take his own life a day or so later? And if so, then WHY??? How will this business that I love so much recover from yet another tragedy? And is this all just one very messed up dream? These are just a few of the questions I’m asking myself this Tuesday morning.Chris Benoit was the very best. William Regal said it during his brief tribute on Raw last night. He was everything I look up to in this business. While I never had the privilege to meet Benoit, as a worker and as a fan, I felt like I knew the man. He carried himself so well when he performed and set a bar so high for the young workers. He gave the fans everything he had every night. That is something that was so special about Benoit, no matter his physical condition, if Chris Benoit was in a match, you knew you was going to get 110% effort. That is why I became such a big fan of his. The respect he demanded was completely earned. Benoit paid his dues. He broke in the business the right way, unlike so many of today’s so called professionals. He taught many people lessons not by his words he spoke, but by his actions he showed. The single greatest moment I have ever witnessed in the world of wrestling was Wrestlemania XX when Chris Benoit won the Worlds Heavyweight Championship. A title he EARNED. People may say that pro wrestling is fake or predetermined, but that moment was completely REAL. When they showed the match last night on Raw, and Benoit and Eddie embraced each other with their belts, I couldn’t keep from shedding tears. I felt so weird, so confused, and so shocked. I cried last night, something I didn’t even do when my own uncle passed away about a month ago due to cancer. I was with my girlfriend Jess yesterday and tried my best to explain to her how I felt and the only thing I could come up with was this analogy. Last week nine firefighters from North Carolina was killed in an accident, since that time fellow firefighters from across the nation has shared their gratitude and sorrow to those affected by the tragedy. Professional Wrestlers are the exact same way. Even though I never met Benoit, he was like a member of my extended family. With so much garbage involved with wrestling, I always knew I could look forward to watching the best, Benoit, work. Every time he walked through the curtain, I would smile, and get chill bumps. For his 10-15 minutes I was entertained. Entertaining is the sole reason I love wrestling. My goal is to make people smile and entertain a crowd for just a couple hours and help them forget about the world around them for a brief time while they watch us perform. That’s why wrestling is as successful as is has become. It truly is a world of its own. What effects will this event have on the wrestling world? Vince McMahon was forced to scrap his own storylined death as a result of this. I feel that the WWE has handled this situation to the best of their abilities. They are being totally honest and up-front on their website offering updates as they become available. The more I read into it, the more and more it appears that the unbelievable has happened. Chris took the loves of his own child Daniel, and his wife Nancy over the weekend, but did not take his own until Monday. That’s something that is very disturbing and bizarre. What would happen to professional wrestling if toxicity reports show extreme levels of steroids in Benoit? This event could have ripple effects throughout the entire business. Is Benoit’s respect and legacy gone because of this incident? And what will we learn in the upcoming weeks? To me, no matter what happened in the Benoit house over the weekend and Monday, it will not change the way I feel about Benoit Professionally. One of my idols in wrestling may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. I hope that some good may come out of this horrible event. And I pray for the friends and families of Chris, Nancy, and Daniel Benoit. God is very forgiving, and when I die maybe I’ll get to referee a triple threat match in Heaven, Own Hart vs Eddie Gurrero vs Chris Benoit.CHRIS BENOIT 1967-2007*note* Thanks for taking the time to read this. I wrote all of this early Tuesday morning and have learned quite a bit since then, but still felt it was worth posting.. See everyone at an upcoming show..
Merry Christmas to all... As I sit here on Christmas night I can’t help myself but to be excited about the upcoming show this Thursday night... The UWA will deliver again with a final show of 2006 that I’m sure people will be talking about well into the new year... Onto the happenings of this week.. Thursday will be the final UWA match for a true friend of mine, Billy Marshall. Last week he requested a final match, against Jerry Lee (with yours truly as referee.) Jerry and Billy have batteled and teamed with each other for as long as I can possibly remember and I can’t think of a better opponent at this time for Billy to have in his final match as a UWA star... This match has a unique and special stipluation.. It will be a 4 corners BOX match. In each corner of the ring will be a box, in one of those boxes a very special weapon.. In the other 3, who knows.... First wrestler to find the weapon may use it.. Should make for an interesting and fun contest... Apparently the other half of the Juggaloz Dave Pillman was not too happy with this announcement so he challenged Billy to a match right then. Dave had control of most of the match, after hitting a dive to the floor, “Wildman” Jeff Anderson came from out of nowhere and attacked Dave.. Dave was left busted open, Billy attempted to get back in the ring, but each time Anderson knocked him off. Things looked real bad for Pillman until “Big Gun” Robbie Race hit the ring.. It was on from the start, Jeff and Robbie looked each other in the eyes as they threw haymakers.. Robbie rebusted open the cut on his head and Jeff took total advantage. Robbie found some built up aggression as he made his way to his feet and drilled Anderson with numerious rights.. Dr Tom Prichard then came in to assist Anderson, but was soon cut off by the entire locker room! 10 guys couldn’t keep these two apart. As one of the two would break away from being held down to attack again... This match is going to be BRUTAL. Both guys are out for not only the Southern Heavyweight Title they want BLOOD.. Check out the promos on the main website for more on this wild situation... The other highlight of the night had to of been The Heartaches in dresses! Cameras was everywhere, as Donovan Danielle, and Jill Miller looked well fememine. The HeatSeekers had some fun but also some scary moments including DD flashing a thong into Andrews face, and giving Siggy a stinkface???? In the end The HeatSeekers got the duke, and due to the result The Heartaches will once again be forced to wear dresses this week!! This Thursday Shane Andrews will take on ½ of the Heartaches (to be named later) No Death Row Inmates, or Outlaws last week as each team was preparing for the Cell Block Cage Match scheduled for this week... These 4 men are going to lay it all on the line for a shot at the tag team champions.... As I said in my previous column, we have seen a new aggression from the Outlaws, will it be enough to put the inmates down and what roles will Scotty Hansen, Sheilla B Badd, Kody Kash, and Danny Ray play in this match????? Deal Or No Deal added a 3rd member last week in newcomer Cyrus... They got the victory in a 3 on 2 handicapped match against the team of Rip O’ Kelly and Shane Williams... I wouldn’t be surprised to see these stars go at it again this week.. (Lance Stark will be back as well) And lets not forget about the newest tradition for big shows in the UWA, a FANS BRING THE WEAPONS MATCH! Shawn Shultz and Menace will finally put an end to their half year long feud.. What crazy things will we see in this match, and who will bring the most unique weapon with them? Our last fans bring weapons match was between Devon Drake and Jerry Lee.. Fans brought anything from a bread roll to a Lawn Mower cover.. These matches are always entertaining and insane... We will see everyone Thursday at the Flea Market.. Bell time is normal 8 pm... Nowhere else in East Tennessee can you get so much for so little ($7) Don’t Miss It! Near Falls: (side notes) Lance Stark had a terrible 24 hour stomach virus that kept him from attending the show last Thursday, (and then I caught the virus) He is doing fine now but trust me when I say, that was a painful night... Stark will be back in action this week... Donovan Daniels was almost kicked out of his own home after the match Thursday.. His parents and grandparents was in attendance, and DD’s own father was quoted of saying “Thats not my son.. I don’t raise q****s”
